Sevilla

Eating out in Sevilla can be easy if you’re jumping from one tapas restaurant to another. There is a Taperia in every corner and at least 90% of their menu is identical throughout. The hardest part is finding a place without taxidermy spread across their walls. At first glance the menu might not seem too vegan-friendly, but don’t panic, there are a couple of safe options, like grilled or deep-fried aubergines, gazpacho or salmorejo, garlic mushrooms, grilled artichokes, spinach and chickpeas dish.

Whilst walking around Seville, and looking for an alternative to tapas after three identical consecutive meals, I stumbled upon “El Rincón de Beirut” a Middle Eastern restaurant. I would recommend it, I had the Combo Plate which is basically a Meze and was truly delicious.

Madrid

I think this is definitely one of the easiest places to find vegan food. In addition to the tapas, which like in Sevilla, you can pick the veggie options and have an enjoyable meal, Madrid has many restaurants with vegan choices, and many many more purely veggie. Here are some of my recommendations:

  • Honest Greens – You can find one in almost every corner, and there’s good reason for their popularity… The food is fresh and tasty and the ambiance is relaxed…oh and the array of Plant Based Desserts is wonderful!
  • Barganzo – A Middle-Eastern delight. You will definitely find vegan options on the menu – I suggest you definitely order the Tomato salad (sans the cheese)
  • Lamucca – You can find more than a few options to choose from, my personal favourite was the Mushroom ‘schnitzel’
  • Hamburguesa Nostra – you can choose a falafel “Novaca” burger
  • Sanissimo – With their homemade meat alternatives, you’re bound to find something to suit your palate
  • Mercado San Miguel – Madrid’s most popular market. You’re bound to find a few nibbles here and there to eat, specially around the empanadas stall!
  • Super Chulo – Yummy! I can guarantee you will really enjoy your meal!
  • Roots – Great for your breakfast needs. For every item in the menu there is a vegan alternative (including plant based bakery!
