In My Shopping List page I mentioned Harina P.A.N for making Arepas. They are Venezuelan ‘bread’ which you can either stuff with goodies or have to accompany a soup, for example. If you haven’t tried them yet, and you live in London, you are in luck, there are a few different places where you can get yourself a good Arepa and other Venezuelan dishes, one of them is Arepa & Co. They have two locations, in Haggerston and in Bethnal Green. I would happily recommend both.
They have a few vegan items on their menu, and although I think you should try everything, here are my favourites:
- Palitos de Yuca – Fried cassava chips. Think of thick potato fries, with a softer taste
- Tostones – They describe them as “twice cooked green plantain crostini”. These are my favourites, I crave them so often. They are served with smashed avocado on top
- Arepa Del Campo – an arepa filled with black beans, plantain and avocado. Please try it and then come back to this page and let me know what you thought!
They also have a Mango and a Passion Fruit sorbet for dessert. I must confess, I don’t enjoy tropical fruits, so I haven’t tried either.
I love going to Arepa and Co for a good dose of Venezuelan food.
Mmm I love Arepa & Co – The Yuca chips are my favourite too!!!
