It doesn’t get nicer than Cliveden House. I have gone for walks in their grounds countless times, and have had the pleasure of eating in the premises twice. The first time was a delightful experience, starting at the library, where I enjoyed a pre-meal cocktail with a wonderful view of the grounds outside. The second was potentially even better as I went for an Afternoon Tea, which is in fact, one of my all time favourite activities.
Cliveden aim to serve locally sourced and fresh produce, so their menu changes with the seasons. You can taste the quality in every bite. I went over for Lunch in 2018 and back then, they didn’t have a full menu with vegan choices but they had a vegan tasting menu from which they asked me to choose my courses. As I write this post, I notice they now do have an À la carte vegan menu. So, rather than talk about the dishes I had, I’ve decided it would be nicer if I go back so that I can update this post with current information.
When I went for Afternoon Tea, I asked for a Vegan experience and they were able to cater. It was honestly, absolutely divine. The assortment of savouries included pepper and hummus sandwiches, sausage roll, a leek tart and vegetable tacos, whilst the sweet treats included a passion fruit on coconut mousse, a solid block of chocolate and an HEAVENLY chocolate truffle-style cake covered with a raspberry jelly. Once you’ve feasted they will present you with two warm scones (yes still vegan). Yum-my!

If you’re looking at this picture and think the portions are small, don’t! They will ‘refill’ your plates when they are empty…
I will say, any meal at Cliveden House is a lovely experience, the staff are extremely pleasant from the moment you park your car all through to the end of your visit. The presentation of their dishes is exquisite and the cocktails in the library beforehand, delicious.
