This gorgeous pink, gold and marble corner in the Royal Lancaster Hotel was the setting for the most delicious afternoon tea I have had in a while. I went on a beautiful Friday afternoon, after strolling through Hyde Park with absolutely no expectations. Afternoon tea is one of my top three activities ever, I love the small bites, the replenishing of food as you eat it, and the array of sweets. I was looking online and stumbled upon the Royal Lancaster Hotel, I honestly booked them because they had availability and a vegan alternative.
Wow was it a great decision! As soon as you walk in, the staff are so kind, we were given recommendations on what teas to pair with the different elements of the meal (sandwiches, desserts and scones) and we never found ourselves with empty cups or plates.
I started with the selection of sandwiches, tomato and cream cheese, avocado, hummus and roasted vegetables, cucumber and cream. They were really tasty and felt fresh.
The desserts, oh my! There was a raspberry mousse, chocolate dome, a cheese-cake style strawberry mousse and a passion fruit pavlova. Honestly delicious!
And to finish, I was so happy the scones were decent, I have had a few vegan scones which have been flat or dense. But the Hyde Café nailed it. They were light and soft.
I have gone to quite a few different hotels and restaurants for afternoon tea, and I honestly don’t have entries for them because I haven’t felt completely satisfied. But The Hyde Café really deserves an entry – I’ll blindly recommend!
