The Gate

After a glowing recommendation from a trusty source, I visited The Gate in Marylebone, and it couldn’t have been tastier!

With a fully plant-based menu, The Gate offers a lovely selection of dishes, all hearty and to be honest, hard to choose from. I’m the kind of person that always looks online in advance and I usually know exactly what I’m going to eat (most of the time it’s ‘the vegan option’) but this time I found it so hard to pick! I sat at the table looking at the menu for a good ten minutes before I made up my mind and went for a Teriyaki Aubergine dish; a Tofu and Aubergine mix, sitting on a bed of teriyaki noodles. And of course I did make sure my friend’s meal was also something I wanted to try – ha! – She went for the Mushroom Risotto.

I didn’t try a starter, mainly because we wanted to save room for dessert. The main was seriously such a generous portion, I didn’t think I could eat anything else, but don’t worry, I persevered. I opted for the Cannoli, thinking it would be a small plate – Boy was I wrong! – three large Cannoli’s absolutely filled with cream and honeycomb were delivered, and honestly for the first time ever, I struggled to finish them, thinking each bite would be my last (seriously, I can’t eat anymore). I did of course, eat the lot!

This is one of those places I will be recommending to everyone I talk to, it was a good, tasty meal and the actual venue and staff were charming. Their menu changes regularly, which is always my favourite feature of places I enjoy, because it means I have a great reason to keep returning.
