Fortnum & Mason

Afternoon Tea

Visiting Fortnum’s is a whole experience, walking through floor after floor of delicious food, teas and an actual dream for me: hundreds of tea and coffee sets! I could walk around forever, imagining on which occasions I would use each set.

This time, my visit ramped up to cloud nine when I reached the fourth floor and treated myself to Afternoon Tea. A live pianist perfected an already wonderful atmosphere, the staff were all charming and the vegan food, well… I think I’ll always remember it as one of my favourite afternoon teas!

I believe they update their menu often, so I took a little snap to give you an idea.

I mentioned I was a vegan when I made the reservation, so when they seated me, they immediately gave me the vegan menu. A nice little touch, so I didn’t have to ask for it.

The mini sandwiches were delicious, full of flavour, and not your usual combinations. I was surprised with myself for enjoying the cauliflower one as I’m not a huge fan usually, but it was really so tasty!

The scones were well baked! Scones are usually the element which I find most places struggle to veganise well, but they succeeded. In the place of clotted cream, I got vegan cream cheese, which I found interesting, but still, never a bad combination with a massive dollop of Jam!

To end, I ate the pastries, oh! the cakes! I began with a melt-in-your-mouth meringue and worked my way through them, basking in the deliciousness of the chocolate mousse and the stickiness of the chocolate loaf. Seriously, it was so rich I had to take some home to finish later!

Speaking of taking home – at the end of the feast, you can chose whether you might want to take cake from the trolley home (why wouldn’t you?). On the day I was there, the options on the trolley weren’t vegan. However, the lovely waitress asked around and found a lovely little tarte in the kitchen which was Vegan, so I didn’t end up empty handed!

I hope I can repeat this experience regularly, it was special, delicious and soo uplifting! Please go and celebrate yourself!
