Sofia
Sofia, Bulgaria, might not be the first place that comes to mind when you think of vegan cuisine, but it’s a delightful surprise for plant-based food enthusiasts. During my recent visit, I discovered an array of vegan options that left me both satisfied and impressed. From cozy cafes to vibrant restaurants, Sofia offers a diverse culinary landscape for vegans. Let me share some highlights:
- Franco’s Pizza – The blend of fresh vegetables and perfectly seasoned tomato sauce on a crispy sourdough base made for a memorable and satisfying meal.
- Sun Moon truly charmed me with its warm, inviting atmosphere and an impressive array of vegan options. The highlight of my visit was one of their specials: delightful carrot ‘balls’ paired with a rich, flavorful vegan sauce and a fresh, vibrant salad. Each bite was a treat, bursting with wholesome goodness. I also sampled their hearty stew, which was equally delicious, leaving me thoroughly satisfied. The restaurant’s dedication to creative, plant-based dishes makes it a must-visit for anyone seeking delicious vegan cuisine in Sofia.
- Shtastliveca restaurant Vitoshka (“The Happy One”). The restaurant’s vibrant atmosphere sets the perfect stage for a memorable dining experience. Their impressive array of vegan options, including delicious lasagna, hearty meatballs, and flavourful moussaka, showcases their dedication to catering to all dietary preferences. Every dish I tried was thoughtfully prepared and bursting with flavour, making Shtastliveca a top choice for vegan dining in Sofia.
- I also popped over to Sense rooftop bar, although we weren’t there for a meal, we still managed to get a couple of nibbles like edamame beans and crispy tortilla bites which will keep you going if you need a break from the tourism!
I was also impressed by the quality of a Bulgarian brand of vegan cheese “Delishu”, I tried three different flavours generously spread on bread and had to even bring some home as I enjoyed it so much.
So, whether you’re exploring the historic streets or admiring the architecture, Sofia’s vegan scene ensures you won’t go hungry. I hope you enjoy your dining experience as much as I did!
