Gauthier Soho

Chef Alexis Gauthier has been talking about plant based meals since the 90’s, becoming a vegan himself a few years ago. Although the restaurant isn’t plant based-only, they offer a great vegan selection “Les Plantes”.

I jumped at the opportunity to go and try the “Vegan Lunch Tasting menu” and boy, was it a delightful afternoon! Located in the centre of Soho and spread across a multiple storey property, we were sat on the second floor, where I must say, the decor is slightly eccentric.

Gauthier Soho has a Michelin star, three AA guide Rosette’s and multiple other awards. So as I expected, the service was impeccable. But I must say, it didn’t feel overly pretentious, it was a really pleasant experience. Every course (I love numerous, small dishes) presented with a brief introduction and a glass of wine beautifully paired with the food. I wish I remembered more details about the wine, but it’s not really a skill of mine. It was however, vegan and good!

The menu dishes change throughout the year, so I won’t bore you with too many details of what I tasted… instead I will tickle your palate with these highlights: the “Faux Gras” is the kind of creamy goodness you are grateful you don’t have in your fridge because you would eat the whole lot in a sitting. His Tri-coloured gnocchi are what inspired me to make my own gnocchi at home. And the aquafaba meringue dome could have fooled anyone into thinking it was regular meringue!

I genuinely had a lovely experience at Gauthier Soho, the food was lovely and the service spectacular. And if you’re interested, they also have an À la carte menu with several vegan options.
